It is a long time now since the Great War: so long that it has had time to have passed through phases of being the First World War, World War I and WWI as well, since it ended. Everyone who took part in it has now died. But still it has a fascination; not just from its horror - all wars have that. It was the scale of the horror which astounds and the fact that there were people working towards another bout of it so few years later.

This part of the site arose from the fact that my brother set about relating the military histories to the sparse selection of facts left by our father so that he should have some idea of how the man’s experience related to the history.

At present, the part of this material which has been prepared for publication consists of a brief survey of the existence of the British 62^nd (2^nd West Riding) Division.
